About Us

At Coggeshall Driving School, we keep you driving as much as possible to improve your skills to the best of your ability.

With Coggeshall Driving School you will have an instructor who has passed an advanced driving test. You will be taught not only to pass the learner driving test but also some advanced driving techniques to keep you safe on the road. Your safety is my priority that is why I improve my driving skills to pass onto you.

I have been teaching since early 2001 and have an above average pass rate for pupils taking their driving test. I am patient and friendly but at the same time professional in my way of teaching. I am a grade A Instructor who is the Vice Chairman and the Honorable Secretary in the Colchester group ‘Institute of Advanced Motorists’.

My driving instructor services are available though out and around Colchester, Coggeshall, Marks Tey, Braintree, Kelvedon & Feering, Earls Colne and Witham.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are lessons?

Lessons are at least 1 hour, we recommend 2 hour lessons as these are more productive and more training can take place. This in the long run will save pupils money as time will not be lost travelling to a suitable training location.

How many lessons will I need?

Each individual learns at a different rate. According to statistics from the Driving Standards Agency, a learner driver who passes their driving test has had, on average, about 45 hours of professional training combined with 22 hours of private practice.

Should I practice between lessons?

Private practice is encouraged with a supervisory driver once the pupil has achieved sufficient skills to be competent and reasonably confident to be able to drive on their own. This will improve their driving skills and increase their ability to control a different vehicle.

Do you provide automatic lessons?

No

What does the theory test involve?

Please see the government’s Theory Test website.

Where is my nearest test centre, and how do I book a test?

You can find information on booking both theory and practical tests here. Theory tests are either Chelmsford or Ipswich and practical tests are Colchester.

Will my instructor help me get ready for the theory test?

Yes. If required your instructor can help with both parts of the theory test during your lessons.

What are the ‘show me / tell me’ questions all about?

They involve answering two questions on basic vehicle safety checks. These questions will be supplied by and covered by your instructor during the course of your lessons. They can also be viewed here.

What do the theory and practical tests cost?

Please visit the government website for full details of test fees.

Can I take lessons in my own car?

It depends on your insurance policy. Some policies have exclusions on using your vehicle for professional driving tuition. We would suggest that using your instructor’s dual controlled vehicle would be the best and safest option.

Will I share my lesson with another learner sat in the back?

No

How do I get a provisional driving licence?

You can pick up an application form for a provisional licence (D1 Pack) from a Post Office, or you can apply online here.
